Charlotte's Web- Audio book

  Title: Charlotte's Web Genre: Fantasy/Audio book  Author: Maurice E.B White  Major awards: Newbery  Age group: 6-9 years  Teacher Evaluation: I read this book when I was in elementary and loved it. Therefore, I would use this book in my classroom. The audiobook is perfect for students to follow along with their book. The appropriate grade level for this book is 3rd-5th grade. The book would be read when learning about fantasy. Students can think about what it would be like to have their pets or animals talk.  Summary: This book is about a pig named, "Wilbur", who is friends with a spider named, "Charlotte". They live in a farm together with other animals, but Wilbur is worried because they are going to kill him. However, Charlotte tells him she will come up with a plan to save him. Throughout the book, they create a beautiful friendship .

Title: Where the Wild Things are  Genre: Fantasy  Author: Maurice Sendak  Major awards: Caldecott Medal  Age group: 4-7 years  Teacher Evaluation: I would definitely use this book in my classroom. I think it a classic book to read aloud. The grade level for this book would be 1st-2nd grade. After the read aloud, my students can write or draw about their own "Wild Things" and use their creativity.  Summary: This book is about a boy who has a big imagination. While he is asleep, he thinks about being in an island and meeting creatures called, "Wild Things". At first, the Wild Things try to scared the boy but he is not afraid of them. The War that Saved my Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley

  Title: The War that Saved my Life  Genre: Historial Fiction  Author: Kimberly Brubaker Bradley  Major awards: Newbery  Age group: 10-15 Teacher Evaluation: I think this is a great book for older students. This is a chapter book, so it would probably better for middle school-high school students to read it.  Some days I could read aloud one or two chapters or let students read the book by themselves. At the end of the chapter, there would be a class discussions to questions to answer. This would be a great book assignment for students to practice their comprehension skills.  Summary: The setting is during World War II about a girl who can not walk due to her twisted foot. Her mom is ashamed of her, treats her bad, and does not let her leave their home. She has a younger brother who she loves and protects him. She wants a better life for them, so they escaped. They both find a better place to live at so she is finally able to grow and enjoy her life....

  Title: Jamie Row, Row, Your Boat Genre: Poetry Author: Joanne Oppenheim  Major awards: N/a Age group: 3-5 years  Teacher Evaluation: I would read this book in a pre-k or kinder class because smaller children would enjoy it. Students can relate to the little boy in the tub. They can make connections with their personal lives. I would use this book when teaching about transportation since the books gives many examples about it.  Summary: This book is about a little boy who is in the tub playing with his toys. He starts to dream about boats, canoe, river raft, ship, and more sorts of transportations. He uses his imagination to think what would happen when he uses a certain transportation.
