It shows the importance of pronouncing a person's name correctly matters to them. It shows respect and kindness towards them. Maybe if there is a student with a non common name or pronunciation, the class can learn how to properly say it.      Summary: Your Name is a Song is about a little girl whose name is mispronounced at school by her teachers and peers. She does not want to go back to school, so her mom teachers her about songs. Title: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Genre: Fantasy fiction    Author: Lewis Carroll Major awards: NA  Age group: 4-5 years Teacher Evaluation: This book would be perfect for my kindergarten or 1st grade classroom to read. Since it is a pop-up book, they will be engage. Summary: This book is about a girl named Alice who falls asleep and dreams about falling into a rabbit hole. She follows the white rabbit through out the book and goes on different adventures.

Title: Junie B. First Grader: Jingle Bells, Batman Smells! Genre: fiction    Author: Barbara Park  Major awards: NA   Age group: 7-9 years Teacher Evaluation: I personally am a fan of Junie B Jones books so I would want my students to listen to this audio book. It would be a fun book to read during the Holidays. Second graders would enjoy Junie's Christmas spirit.   Summary: This book is another collection added to the Junie B Jones series. It is a Holiday edition for Christmas. Junie is in the Holiday spirit but some of her classmates are not, especially May.  They try to ruin her spirit but she does not let it get to her.

Title: Emmanuel's Dream Genre: non-fiction    Author: Laurie Thompson  Major awards: NA   Age group: 5-8 years Teacher Evaluation: I would want to read this book to my class. Preferably 3rd or 4th grade. It is important that students learn to accept others despite of their disabilities.  Summary: This book is about a boy named Emmanuel born in West African. He has one deformed leg and most people look down on him. They excluded him and do not want to be around him. However, his mother has always been his supporter and encourages him to follow his dreams.

  Title: Not So Different  Genre: fiction    Author: Cyana Riley  Major awards: Coretta Scott King   Age group: 4-7 years Teacher Evaluation: I will for sure read this book in my classroom! Kindergarten and 1st grade can learn a lot from this book. They can learn to accept everyone even though they do not look the same.  Summary: This story is about a girl who talks about being different. Her mom is black and her dad is white but together they make the right family. She talks about being different from other but they can learn from each other and love one another.

  Title: Finding Winnie  Genre: Non-fiction    Author: David Shannon  Major awards: Caldecott medal  Age group: 4-7 years Teacher Evaluation: This is a great book to read aloud. Kindergarten and 1st grade students would enjoy reading a book about a bear and learn about the animal.  Summary: Finding Winnie is about a Canadian who saves a bear cub. He names it Winnie and natures it. He creates a connection with the cub but when he was sent to combat, he takes him to the London zoo. Title: We are Water Protectors   Genre: Historical fiction    Author: Carole Lindstrom   Major awards: Caldecott medal  Age group: 4-7 years Teacher Evaluation: I would love to read this book in a kindergarten or 1st grade class because it is simple to understand. Title: A Bad Case of Stripes  Genre: Fiction    Author: David Shannon  Major awards: Bluebonnet  Age group: 4-7 years Teacher Evaluation: I would want to read this book to 1st grade or second grade class. I would most likely read this book in the beginning of the school year because this book takes place during the that time. As a teacher, I would use this book to welcome students in the classroom and make them feel comfortable.  Summary: A Bad Case of Stripes is about a girl name Camilia. She wakes up with rainbows stripes all over her body. It seems like whatever people say, her skin turns into it. She is very self conscious about the way she looks.  Title: The Tale of Despereaux   Genre: Fantasy Fiction    Author: Kate DiCamillo   Major awards: Newbery  Age group: 7-10 years Teacher Evaluation: This is such a cute book to read in a 3rd or 4th grade.
